Behind the Seams ✂️🧵

Hello Reader!

You may have noticed a slight change with this newsletter, or you may not have in your haste to open it and find out what's going at Make Modern HQ. But either way, allow me to give you a lil update!

I'm Kristy, the Creative Director of Make Modern. If you're a foundation piecer or lover of rainbows, you may already know me from Quiet Play. Lara, your previous newsletter writer, and I decided to have a bit of a shake up and switch roles for a bit. They say a change is as good as a holiday so here we are!

We also figured the newsletter needed a name - hence "Behind the Seams". This obviously has nothing to do with the fact my poor old brain is dreadful at coming up with subject lines, and entirely about making it easier for you to find our newsletters in your inbox. ;)

Wondering what all this means for you? Not a thing, my friend! The newsletters remain uninterrupted, the magazine continues to be jampacked with quilty goodness, and we all continue to share quilting as our most favourite hobby in the world. All is well!

So let's get chatting and find something to inspire and delight you ahead of the weekend!

Issue 61 is our current issue out in the world, but if you haven't already checked it out, maybe you'd like a closer look at just some of the projects featured inside!

These projects include a:

  • cute traditionally pieced mini quilt featuring kitties from Tiffany Horn
  • fun pieced wallhanging from Shayna Bennett
  • striking table runner sewn with curves from Birgitta Jadenfelt
  • cheerful pieced medallion style quilt from Leah Fisher
  • plus the cutest applique pillow featuring an adorable vintage machine from Elena McPeak

Brilliant projects, wonderful designers, a wide range of techniques, what more could you ask for?

Plus this is only half of the ten projects this issue! Don't worry, I'll share the other half next newsletter. Or you know, you could just go grab the magazine and check it out for yourself. Just sayin' ;)

Christmas is coming!

If you've had the dreaded question "what do you want for Christmas" and couldn't think of anything, might I suggest you pop "A subscription to Make Modern" on your list? Then forward your loved one this email ;)

Or maybe you have a quilty friend who would love some quilty inspiration straight to their inbox six times a year!

We've got you covered with gifting options!

Gift a single issue by adding it to your cart and following the checkout instructions. You can include a personalised message and select the date you would like your gift to be delivered. For subscriptions, email us with your lucky recipient’s name and email address after you subscribe, and we’ll handle the rest.

If you're in the mood to sew (and really, when are we quilters not in the mood to sew?), and looking for your next Christmas project, allow us to help. Here's a few makes from previous issues of the magazine perfect for the holidays.

Click the pic to go straight to the issue to find your project. Or go all out and grab yourself an All-Access pass which gives you just that. All access to every project, article and column we've ever published in Make Modern! With over ten years of issues, that's a whole lot of value! (And also an excellent Christmas gift, if you know what I mean).

If you already have a mag subscription and would like to upgrade to All-Access, just drop us a line and we can get that sorted for you so you can be sewing these projects today!

And with that, my first newsletter for Make Modern is complete! How'd I do? Lump of coal in my stocking, or some delicious chocolate? (Please say chocolate!).

Let me finish off by saying thank you for being a part of our Make Modern community throughout the year. We'll be busy little bees over the Christmas break getting the next issue ready for you!

However you're celebrating the holidays this year, we wish you a safe and happy season, filled with joy, sewing and hopefully a little bit of fabric.

Happy making!

Kristy, Lara and Jane

Hello quilty friend! There's a saying that pops up whenever quilting and sewing memes are created - "I cannot count my day complete until needle, thread and fabrics meet". We may not know who originally coined the phrase, but I think we can all relate! While sometimes we don't actually get to the fabric-meet-needle point, I think it still counts when we're thinking about our next project or reading something that inspires us to get creative! As creative people, it's a bit of a necessity. So...
