Behind the Seams โœ‚๏ธ๐Ÿงต

Hello Reader!,

We're already into the second month of 2026! Sometimes January feels like it takes an age to get through, but not this year. It seems to have flown by. I hope that means you can tick "made a quilt" off your 2026 to-do list already! Or at least a quilt top, or even a block. Something that says you made a little time to get creative and sew.

But if you haven't? Eh we still have the whole rest of the year! And we'd like to invite you to find your next make in Issue 68! We had a bit of a look at some of the projects last newsletter, let's check out the rest of them!

We can't go past a good rainbow - and Rainbow Sprouts by Preeti Harris is packed full of colour! Flowers have always been a popular motif in quilting, and this sprout design in rainbow brights is a cute modern take on the theme. And as a bonus, the offucts from the piecing can become a whole extra quilt.

We also have a couple of soft palettes featuring low volume fabrics - for those who like a quieter kind of quilt pattern.

This beautiful Scrappy Lone Star (left) by Shannon Mower is a stunner. It's a classic design that is easily made modern with fabric selection. While lone stars are traditionally considered a challenging pattern, Shannon has used jelly roll strips, strip piecing and a no y-seam technique to make this pattern very achievable.

Urban Drift (right) by Kathryn LeBlanc is a complex looking quilt, but has the magic of actually being created with simple steps. It's made from simple 6" blocks which are sewn together to create the abstract arrow formation.

We have some lovely geometric style projects for the last two highlights!

Lucky Stripes (left) by Elisabeth DeMoo is a quilt that celebrates the classic diamond shape in a delightful way. Using strip pieced units and triangle construction, this stunner is a great way to use a jelly roll or favourite print collection.

Fractured Blooms by Prarthana Inglis is a stunning big block cushion that is proof more is more. Just one supersized block is all you need to create an eye-catching cushion.

If you're looking for some inspiration, your next quilt project, or just want a great quilty read, grab Issue 68 and get stuck in!

๐ŸŽ‰ Make Modern is heading to the Modern Quilt Show Australia 2026!
๐Ÿ“ 13-15 March 2026 | Petersham Town Hall, Sydney

Hosted by the Sydney and Wollongong Modern Quilt Guilds, this celebration of modern quilting is going to be incredible - stunning quilts, amazing workshops with award-winning tutors, and the fabulous Tania Tanti as featured artist and keynote speaker! Bring your quilted wearables - jackets, coats, dresses, bags - and be spotted by our friendly roving reporters, Jane and Lara, to be featured in Make Modern! We can't wait to see your creative makes in person and celebrate modern quilting together.

Wishing you a week full of inspiration, creativity and a whole bunch of fabric fun!

Happy making!

Kristy, Lara and Jane
