Behind the Seams ✂️🧵

Hello Reader,

If you're looking for a little inspiration, some cosy quilting reading or maybe hunting for the perfect project for a Christmas gift this year, get yourself a copy of Issue 67 Make Modern (hint: click here!)! Or better yet, treat yourself to an early Christmas present with a subscription! There's great articles plus a bunch of beautiful projects to choose from! Let's chat about some of them!

Starting at the beginning with our cover quilt ...

This stunner is Cracked, designed by Irish quilter Rita Geyermann. Some quilts grab your attention and captivate you, and this is one such quilt. Between the use of colour, quilting and design, this is a showstopper that would look fantastic on a wall. While it looks complex, it's created from strip piecing, and with careful trimming and placement, it's a very doable project for confident quilters.

If you're a rainbow lover (like me!), we have two stunning quilts that are sure to catch your fancy.

Rainbow Illusions (left) is designed by Monika Henry. It's a clever design where the piecing creates a three dimensional effect making it an interesting and effective quilt.

Rowley's Bay (right) created by Rachelle Craig is the third in a series (you can find the other two Bay quilts in Issues 55 and 65!), It combines solids with rainbow prints for a fun rainbow wallhanging bound to bring cheer to any home, or maybe even your office!

Perhaps you're a bit of a flower lover - in which case we have two fantastic quilts that you may need to add to your "to-make" list!.

Protea Posy (left), designed by South African maker Dewald Compion is a foundation paper pieced pattern born from Dewald's love of these bold and beautiful blooms. With striking shapes, layered florals and the unmistakable texture of Shewshwe fabric, Protea Posy is where structured patchwork meets African flair, a celebration of creativity, heritage and blooming beauty.

Airmid (right) by Erin Holmes is name after the Celtic goddess of herbal wisdom and healing. It's a one-block wonder with a magical twist. Each block can be rotated, flipped or rearranged to reveal entirely new layouts - all from a single pattern.

Each issue we chat to incredible makers from around the world. Issue 67 features talented quilters Erin Holmes and Cole Whitaker

Erin Holmes from United States

@hexenhaus.co and @quiltbrew

Erin's quilting journey began with making something special for her daughter. "As an educator, I was inspired to create a quilt to give to my daughter that celebrated her favourite storybook characters." From that start, Erin's desire to bring her quilt designs to life led to the creation of her pattern company, Hexen Haus, and later Quilt Brew.
"I love a good challenge, so I decided to launch Quilt Brew which is a 'brew your own design' pattern series for the modern quilter. It offers a flexible design and limitless possibilities as quilters can mix and match blocks or transform them to create their own quilt designs. Giving quilters freedom of expression and opportunity really inspires me."

Cole Whitaker from United States

@colesquilts

Starting with a Super Mario 3 quilt that he designed, quilting quickly became a big part of Cole's life, from designing, sewing, and creating commissioned quilts. "I have created many commissions for people, and won awards in quilt shows. Quilting has also ben a form of therapy for me, it brings me a lot of joy... Quilting gave me a reason to get up in the morning and helped me work through my depression and chronic illness until I was able to go back to work."
